After 8 days driving thousands of kilometers in South Africa, from Secunda to Cape Town, thirteen solar cars built by teams from across the world cross the finish line of an event described by its organizer as “the most extreme solar challenge in the world”.

The event, Sasol Solar Challenge, is held every two years in South Africa. A team of Belgian students and engineers won a solar-powered car race. Over a dozen teams competed in the eight-day race spanning thousands of kilometres, with varying weather and altitude extremes adding to the complexities for designers.
