Social Security: National-level Social Security Board holds meeting

The Social Security Board of the Ministry of Labour held its National-level Social Security Board Meeting (1/2023) at the Ministry office on Friday.

At the meeting, Union Minister for Labour and Chairman of the National-Level Social Security Board U Myint Naung made an opening speech saying that the Social Security Board has been implementing the social security project since 1956 and a new system was introduced in 2012. Implementing the social security project to protect the life of workers under the social security law can improve the production sector and development of the country.

A triangle party including government, employees and employers was established and has been working to provide effective healthcare services and social security benefits for the insured workers in accordance with the law. Currently, the social security board has been providing healthcare services and financial benefits for 1.25 million insured workers.

It’s also been cooperating with International Social Security Association-ISSA and ASEAN Social Security Association–ASSA. Medical reimbursement instructions have been issued to allow the maternity services and provided medical expenses for insured female workers - over 1.2 billion kyats for them and also, more than 54,000 billion kyats for cases submitted by the insured workers, he added.

And, members of the National level social security board and representatives of departments discussed and made decisions on the reports. Then, the Union Minister urged attendees to carry out necessary changes to provide better services for the insured workers.
