On August 14, 2024, the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC) inspected the HlayHlaw Inn Labour Camp in Hlegu Township, Yangon Region, in accordance with Sections 43 and 44 of the Commission Law.

The inspection team assessed whether prisoners at the camp were receiving their fundamental rights, including appropriate food supply, access to healthcare, and adequate purified water. The team inquired about the receipt of prison-issued items and items sent by families, as well as family visitations.

They also evaluated workplace conditions, including safety procedures, discrimination, and any potential human rights violations or cases of torture. Additionally, the team conducted private interviews with prisoners who wished to speak freely.

The inspection covered various facilities within the camp, including dormitories, the clinic, the library, the kitchen, food storage, and the water purification and sanitation systems. The MNHRC also donated general knowledge books to the prisoners. Following the inspection, the MNHRC will provide its findings and recommendations to the relevant departments in accordance with MNHRC regulations for necessary actions.
