Snow intensifying in Northern Japan

Snow is intensifying in northern and other parts of Japan. Weather officials are advising people to exercise caution as heavy snow is forecast to hit mainly northern to western areas along the Sea of Japan through Tuesday. The Japan Meteorological Agency is ascribing the weather to a powerful winter pressure pattern.

It is urging people primarily in northern through western regions along the Sea of Japan to be vigilant against avalanches and snow accumulation on electric wires and trees. Undulating high waves could be observed in waters off eastern areas along the Sea of Japan for several hours on Monday, with swells predicted to surge 5 meters in the sea off Hokuriku.
