Slovakia approves two-week national lockdown

Slovakia's government approved a two-week national lockdown amid a record surge of coronavirus infections. The measures take effect on Friday will target all, both unvaccinated and vaccinated. The announcement came after Slovakia set another record for coronavirus infections.

Meanwhile, Coronavirus infections in the Czech Republic soared to a record level again, reaching almost 26,000 daily cases, the country's Health Ministry said on Wednesday. The daily cases hit 25,864 on Tuesday, about 3,000 more than the previous record registered on Friday. In response to the surge the government has been considering mandatory vaccination for certain groups of people, including the elderly, medical and military personnel or police officers.
