Six-legged Chinese robot “guide dogs” can now play vital roles in multiple fields with the latest AI technology attached, including appliance monitoring, elderly care, and even scientific research in extreme environments.
Jointly developed by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Lenovo Group, the robot dogs feature high maneuverability, stability, and maximum load. By attaching additional robot arms and other equipment, they can fit varied environments and fulfill a wide range of tasks. Recently, research teams carried out field tests in China’s Zhongshan Antarctic research station to examine the performance of robot dogs in harsh conditions.
Outfitted with ice-adaptive boots, insulation equipment and specialized batteries, the robot dogs can work consecutively for over four hours in temperatures as low as minus 40 degree Celsius, capable of detecting risky ice cracks and delivering essential equipment.
