





The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement conducted the Disaster Simulation Drill for students with disabilities.
Union Minister DrSoe Win attended an opening ceremony, held at the Training Center for Social Welfare in Yangon on Sunday. In his opening speech, the Union Minister said awareness activities commemorating the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, to be fall on 13th October, will be conducted in pre-schools, basic education schools, Universities and Degree Colleges as well as school for the deaf, Disabled Youth Training School and School for the Blind (Kyimyindaing).
This program aims to emerge the disaster resilient society and to turn out new generation whom could comply with the impacts of natural disasters in implementing the development works. The Union Minister urged the students to participate in disaster risk reduction with the combination of their abilities and experience, thus gained during the drill.
About 160 students with disabilities, teachers and staff form the Disabled Youth Training School (Yangon) participated in the Cyclone Preparedness Drill, while some 100 participants from the School of the Blind (Kyimyindaing) took part in Earthquake Preparedness Drill. During these drills, lectures were given on preparation before disaster, first aid kit, points to follow during and after disaster, along with the activities for evacuation to the safer places.
