Signing MoU Amendment: MoU Amendment signed between Myanmar and Lao

The ceremony of signing MoU Amendment on Myanmar-Lao cooperation in the electric power sector between the Ministry of Electric Power of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the signing Notice to Proceed (NTP) to offer to the Consortium of PISASAI Energy and Mine Investment Pte. Ltd. and Primus Sapphire Power Company Limited for the border crossing power line project feasibility study was held at Jasmine Nay Pyi Taw Hotel on 3rd April, 2023 with the attendance of SAC member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San, SAC member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Planning and Finance U Win Shein, Union Ministers and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Minister for the Ministry of Energy and Mines Mr. Phoxay Sayasone and officials concerned from the two countries.

First, the SAC member Union Minister Admiral Tin Aung San delivered an opening address stressing the improvement of work implementations for the project of connecting power line network between the two countries to transmit and sell the electric power.

In his remark, the Union Minister U Thaung Han highlighted the extension of MoU for further 5 years, feasibility study of power line connecting between the two countries to distribute 600 Megawatts, cooperation in the Mekong River Hydro-power development project and the border crossing power line connection project to Kengtung in 2024 and to Meiktila in 2026.

Next, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Minister for the Ministry of Energy and Mines Mr. Phoxay Sayasone gave a remark. Next, under the patron of SAC member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister Admiral Tin Aung San, Union Minister for Electric Power U Thaung Han and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Minister for the Ministry of Energy and Mines Mr. Phoxay Sayasone signed a MoU Amendment and exchanged mutually.

Then, director general of the Union Minister’s Office of the Ministry of Electric Power, Deputy Managing Director of PISASAI Energy and Mine Investment Pte. Ltd. and Executive Director of Primus Sapphire Power Company Limited signed the Notice to Proceed (NTP).

After completing the signing ceremony, SAC member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister Admiral Tin Aung San and Lao PDR Minister for the Ministry of Energy and Mines Mr. Phoxay Sayasone exchanged momorable gifts and posed for documentary photo. In the evening, the delegation of Lao PDR was hosted with dinner.
