Significant Day of Myanmar People: In memory of fallen martyr leaders

As a gesture to commemorate the 76th anniversary Martyrs’ Day, a special exhibition is being organized at the Secretariat, (Former Ministers’ Office) in Yangon where General Aung San and the martyrs were assassinated. The exhibition showcases preserved belongings of the martyrs from the National Museum, and is opened to the public free of charge.

Deputy Director, Dept. of Archaeology and National Museum, Zaw Han said "We made preparations for special exhibition since June. The tables and seats in original form and also, the historical records of martyred leaders are on display at the meeting room where they were assassinated. Among the remaining things of martyred leaders, 28 items of 11 kind of materials preserved in the National Museum are specially displayed in a new layout different from previous year."

Chief Operation Officer, Ahnawmar Art Group Co., Ltd, Ngu Kay Khaing said "On the Martyr’s day, people can visit the meeting hall where the leaders were assassinated and the parliamentary building from 8 am to 4pm with free of charge. Heath care services and security matters are also provided for the visitors. We would like to invite anyone to visit this place as it is a memorial and historical place full with remembrance for Myanmar people."

For visitors, face scanning for security, measuring body temperature, distributing masks and hand sanitizers for health are being undertaken in line with COVID-19 rules.

Head, Department of Public Health (Botahtaung), Dr. Hay Mar Zaw said "As this is flu season, it is important to wear masks in crowded places. Medical care unit is opened annually here on Martyr’s day, with medical personnel from relevant departments, rapid response teams and volunteer organizations to provide emergency healthcare services for visitors."

Visitor, Phyo Wai Kyaw said "I’m very satisfied to have the opportunity to visit here on this special occasion. I’d like to express thanks to relevant departments and officials. For today, we’ve planned to visit the Secretariat building as well as Martyrs Mausoleum."

Martyr’s Day celebration is one of significant occasion for Myanmar people and it is observed annually on July 19th. On this significant day, people visit to the monument places related to the fallen martyr leaders including General Aung San. At 10:37 am, the time that the martyrs were assassinated, people and vehicles on road stopped and commemorated the fallen leaders by saluting and honking as a gesture to salute the fallen heroes.
