Severe blizzards forecast for areas along Sea of Japan

Blizzards are affecting parts of northern to western Japan, mainly on the Sea of Japan side. Weather officials are warning that the severe conditions will peak through Monday morning. A strong winter pressure pattern and a cold air mass are bringing snow to regions from Hokkaido through Kyushu.

Heavy snow fall in various Japan cities and prefectures including Hokkaido, Kyoto, Niigata prefecture, Fukushima prefecture and many others. All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines have canceled some flights since Sunday morning. Many of them are services connecting the Sanin region or Hokuriku with other regions.
