A large group of anti-coal activists march in protest near the Welzow open-pit coal mine in eastern Germany.

Organizers say nearly a thousand people took part, while police put the numbers at around 500. The demonstrators are calling for an early phasing-out of coal, in order to comply with the 1.5 degree warming limit set by the Paris Agreement. They also want the amount of coal mined in the Lautsitz region to not exceed 205 million tonnes by 2038.
