






In Myanmar, there are a total of 4 million acres of sesame cultivation across the country and about 7 million metric tons has been produced annually.
Myanmar mainly exported sesame to China and sesame worth about 340 million USD were exported in 2020-2021 FY, according to an official of Myanmar Pulses, Beans, Maize and Sesame, Seeds Merchants Association (MPBMSMA).
Soe Win Maung, Adviser, MPBMSMA said "The cultivation of variety of sesames has increased and Myanmar mainly exported to China and followed by Thailand, Japan, Singapore and Korea. Around 50,000 acres of sesame were damaged by the cyclone MOCHA and it can affect to the export sector. "
Sesame is mainly cultivated in Magway, Sagaing and Mandalay regions throughout the year and especially the white, brown and black sesames are grown. Myanmar mainly exports sesame to China via the border posts.
