Swollen rivers in Montenegro and parts of Serbia have claimed four lives, with a woman and her two children drowning in Montenegro when the car she was driving over a bridge plunged into the water.

In a separate incident, a two-year-old boy drowned after falling into a river in southern Serbia. Both incidents happened over the weekend.

Authorities in the southern Serbian region of Raska have proclaimed a state of emergency because of the heavy flooding and the army was deployed to help the local population with evacuations and deliveries of drinking water and food.
