A Seminar on Code of Practice for Construction and Operation of Rice Bran Oil Mill was held in Yangon on Friday. Patron of Myanmar Engineering Council Union Minister for Industry Dr Charlie Than joined the meeting via online.

In his speech, the Union Minister stressed the importance of safety measures in establishing Rice Bran Oil Mill since it has to use hazardous chemicals according to its production process. He encouraged to seek technical consultation in establishing new Rice Bran Oil Mill and Oil Mill for long term sustainability and ensuring work site safety.

According to statistics, oil consumption of every individual in Myanmar is about six vises per year, amounting to over 500,000 tons of edible oil annually to meet the demand of more than 51 million population. As of November 2024, there are 3,171 private oil mills and among them, 2,333 oil mills are in operation. These facilities can produce over 242,000 tons of edible oil, which is accounting for only 48% of the demand. In order to meet the local demand, Rice Bran Oil Mill is under construction in Nay Pyi Taw.
