The water level in the French capital's Seine River is higher than usual following heavy rains, carrying muddy waters with a strong current in front of the Conciergerie building in Paris. Despite the high water level, the river remains open to navigation.

The flood alert system in France has been working at a record pace as relentless rain over the past month has saturated soils, the head of the agency said on Saturday. "For 30 days they have been in continuous orange or red alert somewhere on the national territory," the director of Vigicrues said, referring to the two highest alert levels.
