Sedawgyi Dam: MoALI DM inspected Sedawgyi Dam

The Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, U Bo Bo Kyaw, inspected the Sedawgyi Dam located in Sedawgyi Village, Madaya Township, Mandalay Region, on 16th December.

First, responsible officials from the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department briefed him on key information regarding the Sedawgyi Reservoir Dam, the findings of field inspections conducted by the dam safety inspection team and planned remedial measures, the status of water storage and management within the reservoir, water distribution for the monsoon rice crop, and the allocation plans for supplying irrigation water for the 2025–2026 summer rice and summer crops in Mandalay, Madaya, Patheingyi and Amarapura townships.

In response to the briefings, the Deputy Minister instructed that areas requiring further examination be inspected in detail, that irrigation canals be checked and necessary repairs carried out to ensure the full resumption of irrigation water supply, that routine maintenance works be continued; that the structural integrity of the dam and spillway be continuously monitored through dam monitoring measurements and that dam monitoring reports be submitted regularly, along with discussions on technical requirements.

The Deputy Minister then inspected the structural condition of the concrete dam and earth embankment, the condition of the sluice gates, the operation of gate opening and closing, and the inspection gallery within the concrete dam. He also provided support materials to staff currently serving at the reservoir.

He further toured and inspected the hydropower plant’s electricity generation operations and the hydropower control room. The plant officials explained technical details of the Sedawgyi Hydropower Plant, ongoing rehabilitation works, and the current working conditions of staff. The Deputy Minister coordinated and addressed the necessary requirements accordingly.

Similarly, the Deputy Minister visited the newly constructed right-bank canal of the Sedawgyi Dam, which is under implementation to extend irrigation coverage to an additional 12,000 acres, and inspected the completed water-regulating tower and outlet structures. He then visited the offices of the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department and the Agricultural Mechanization Department in Madaya Township, where he met cordially with staff on duty and coordinated necessary support and assistance, it’s reported.
