Security and trade key in Rubio's visit to Ecuador

The fight against organized crime and the strengthening of commercial ties between Ecuador and the United States are key in the visit of US Senator Marco Rubio to the Andean country, authorities said Thursday.

His goal as United States senator is to look for ways to strengthen security, prosperity and democracy in their region said Rubio during a joint statement at Quito Airport, accompanied by Ecuador's Government Minister Henry Cucalón and Foreign Minister Juan Carlos Holguín.

During his visit, the Florida Republican who is also a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, is expected to meet with Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso and other officials.
