Science Fair: Annual Science Fair At Yangon University Till December 11

The Science Fair is back again for its 5th time with a variety of technologies and scientific creativity booths at Yangon University on Sunday.

Union Minister for Education Dr. Myo Thein Gyi visited the fair and toured around to see the works of the students.

Union Minister, Ministry of Education, H.E. Dr. Myo Thein Gyi said “Supporting this science fair is encouraging students to get close to real world through their projects which would fulfill the needs of people, the needs to develop the private sector and the needs to develop the socioeconomic status of the country.”

The Science Fair is organized annually by the Yangon University’s Research Center in December which is the birth month of the university.

Head, University’s Research Center, Professor Dr. Ye Chan said “We mainly aim the students of YU to raise their knowledge on science and their scientific creativity and to improve their cooperation and their skills to present their projects to the public.” 

The fair includes 3 sections - exhibition and competition of the students, exhibition of technology companies and departments, and the science circus which is to spread the basic scientific knowledge to the ordinary people.

Team Geo Gamut, Department of Geology, Khant Paing Oo said “In 20 years, we know there will be hazards or land slide. Yes, there are many things that can happen in our future. So, we think we need to do something. Come on! Obviously. We gonna reduce the usage of the underground water and we’re gonna use the recycled water from the flood that happen.”

Team Andromeda, Department of Physics, Aung Phone Myat said “This is the hologram project; we create a 3D visual illusion. We project 3 images on this pyramid, transparent pyramid” “Human’s attention spending is dropping because of the watching lots of smart phone. So, we though like we have to create something that will grab the attention of human sight quickly.”

There are 48 booths of the companies and departments which show their latest technologies and teaching aids. For the exhibition and competition of the students works, 30 teams from different majors are participating.  The Fair will take place till the 11th of December.
