SC In Japan: Sc Held Talk With Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Shinzo Abe

State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who is currently in Japan to attend the Enthronement Ceremony for His Majesty Emperor Naruhito, met with the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the State Guest House in Tokyo on Monday morning.

At the meeting, strengthening Myanmar-Japan bilateral relation and cooperation, acceleration of Myanmar-Japan economic cooperation including Thilawa Special Economic Zone, continuation of providing assistance by the Japan Government for the efforts of Myanmar Government in the internal peace making process and tackling the Rakhine State Affairs and collaboration in regional and international for a were discussed.

Next, the State Counsellor received a delegation led by the chairman of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Mr. Kazushige Nobutani at Meiji Kinenkan in Tokyo. At the meeting, more investments of Japanese companies and business entrepreneurs in Myanmar, especially investment in the agriculture, livestock breeding and goods production and the works carrying out by JETRO were discussed.

Also present at the meeting were the union minister U Kyaw Tint Swe, deputy minister U Sett Aung, Myanmar Ambassador to Japan U Myint Thu and officials. In the afternoon, the state counsellor attended the 2nd Myanmar Investment Forum held at Meiji Kinenkan and delivered a remark.

In her opening remark, the state counsellor said that Myanmar is exercising the economic open door policy and deregulating the business procedures, moreover it’s endeavoring to be a responsible member of international family by making more contacts with international community and putting efforts to maintain balance the economic development and the stability and peace harmoniously.  

Myanmar is now implementing more comprehensive, fair, responsible, sustainable, all-inclusive strategy. To tackle those efforts, Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan has been launched last year. That plan will be the foundation to shape Myanmar’s development in coming decades. In line with that plan, Myanmar government formulated the policy and principles to uplift the good economic procedures and implement the good governance. Myanmar government is exerting efforts for the liberalization in the important economic sectors strategically. Moreover, the by-law and procedures hindered the economic sector were repealed and the online registration system was implemented for the business entrepreneurs etc.

At the second part of the forum, union minister U Kyaw Tint Swe clarified the economic and investment policy changes in Myanmar, the advantages contained in Myanmar Investment Law and Myanmar Companies Law and the opportunities for investments in Myanmar. Afterward, managing director of JETRO Mr. Kazufumi Tanaka explained about Japan companies operating in Myanmar and the investment opportunities.

Next, the discussion titled “The perspective of Japanese Companies which invest in Myanmar on the investment and economic environment of Myanmar” was held. At the discussions, deputy minister U Sett Aung, chairman of UMFCCI U Zaw Min Win, officials of Japan companies which are investing in Myanmar and managing director of JETRO discussed the Myanmar-Japan economic and investment matters.

Totaling over 700 participants including Japanese and Myanmar entrepreneurs and invited guests attended the meeting. JETRO has opened a branch office in Myanmar and been cooperating for the promotion of trade and investment sectors. In the evening, the state counsellor arrived at Myanmar Embassy and Myanmar Military Attache in Tokyo and cordially greeted the staff families of Myanmar Embassy and Myanmar Military Attaché led by Myanmar Ambassador U Myint Thu and delivered a remark. Later, the state counsellor attended the dinner hosted by Myanmar Embassy.
