Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced that a package of support measures to those affected by the volcano of La Palma will be approved early next week.

Sanchez visited the island in the Canary archipelago on Sunday and it was the prime minister's third visit since the emergency began. The new economic package will allocate 206 million euros to the reconstruction of the island.

On Friday 1st of October, the volcano opened two more fissures of about 15 meters apart, sending streaks of fiery red and orange molten rock down toward the sea, parallel to an earlier flow that reached the Atlantic Ocean earlier this week.

The lava has so far destroyed or partially destroyed more than 1,000 buildings, including homes and farming infrastructure.
