Same-sex couples in Thailand can register marriage from Jan 23rd of 2025

Same-sex couples can register marriages at all district offices throughout the country from January 23rd, when the Marriage Equality Act comes into force. The spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, said today that Interior Minister had ordered the Provincial Administration Department to prepare to provide assistance to same-sex couples who want to register.

Under the Marriage Equality Act, to register, same-sex couples must be at least 18-year-old. In case of a minor, he or she must be accompanied by their parents, who must give their consent, and there must be permission from a court.

Same-sex couples must bring their ID cards, or equivalent document issued by a government agency, and their household registration documents with them. In case of foreign couples, they must show their passports and letters from their embassies confirming their statuses. The marriage registration fee is 200 baht.
