Salt Production in Rakhine: The number of salt farmers has increased to 50%

Due to the higher demand for salt from Bangladesh, the number of salt farmers has increased to 50 percent in Rakhine State.

In Rakhine State, KyaukPhyu area mainly produces salt and distributes to the Yangon market. For the salt production, about 50% are produced from KyaukPhyu, 30% from Pauktaw, 20% each from Ponnagyun and Rathedaung in Rakhine State.

About 6,000 tons of salt produced by Rakhine State are distributed to the Yangon region. According to the Rakhine State Salt Producers Association, salt producers use the plastic sheeting system as the modern techniques in their production to get high quality salt.

The Association also added that they still discuss with Bangladesh salt traders to expand Rakhine salt market, to produce better quality salt and provide job opportunities for local people.
