South Korean civic groups representing Japan's wartime forced labour victims protested outside parliament on Thursday.

They were calling for compensation for the WW2 victims.Relations between Seoul and Tokyo have been strained since South Korea’s Supreme Court in 2018 upheld lower court verdicts and ordered the Japanese companies-Nippon Steel and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to compensate Korean forced laborers. The companies have refused to carry out the orders.

Victims have also been demanding the Japanese companies to issue an apology over their ordeals.
