Russia's Lavrov meets with Nicaraguan President

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega in Managua on Wednesday to discuss "many issues of mutual interest." Speaking at a news conference, Lavrov said "economic issues" and "cooperation within the framework of the Intergovernmental commission" were spoken about.

Lavrov began his tour of Latin America on Monday with a stop in Brazil, where the administration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is seeking to simultaneously develop ties with China, Europe and the U.S. while keeping an open door to Russia. Lavrov was expected to meet with Cuban officials on Thursday.
