Russian passports being issued in Berdyansk

Some residents in Berdyansk in Ukraine have been issued with Russian passports. Berdyansk police department's migration service said about 2,500 Ukrainian citizens have received Russian passports since June, with another 5,000 waiting to be naturalized.

Applications for Russian citizenship in occupied Berdyansk started on 12 June. According to the head of the migration service, it takes up to a month to get Russian citizenship. Russian troops occupied Berdyansk, the city of 90,000 residents, in February 2022.
