Russia's foreign minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in North Korea on Wednesday for a two-day visit in Pyongyang after accompanying President Vladimir Putin on a trip to Beijing.
Lavrov's visit to North Korea is the latest sign of deepening ties between Moscow and Pyongyang. The meetings in Pyongyang are expected to lay the groundwork for a future visit by Putin, who was invited by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un last month at a high-profile summit in Russia's far east.
Kim travelled to Russia last month by a specially built bullet-proof train for a face-to-face meeting with Putin and declaring bilateral ties with Moscow.
