Rural Road Network Development: Department of Rural Dev’t holds work coordination meeting

The Department of Rural Development under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development held a work coordination meeting on the Union and Region/State implementing tasks for 2022-2023 fiscal year on Tuesday.
At the meeting, Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe said that the Ministry is carrying out for sustainable progress of socio-economic life of rural people while implementing for systematic development of small scale industries enterprises.
By doing so, it will be narrowing development gap between urban and rural areas as well as regions and states and sustainable development of good environment. To transport quality regional products of rural people, the inputs and techniques are needed as well as the roads linking rural and urban areas as well as connecting to the markets.
The Department of Rural Development is undertaking the tasks by adopting the Strategic Plan for Rural Road and it needs to arrange for meeting the goal of the plan on rural roads to become all-weather ones in 2030.
He stressed the needs on development of rural roads that can provide health service, education, job opportunities of rural people, other services, making feasible survey before the tasks, implementing the tasks in line with financial rules and regulations and checking quality control in constructing roads and bridges meeting set standard and working together for the interests of the state and the people.
The Director General of the Department of Rural Development and the Region and State in-charges reported on progress of works. The Department of Rural Development is implementing 2,196 rural roads and 1,819 bridges in 2022-2023 fiscal year.
