RURAL ELECTRIFICATION: 6 VILLAGES IN KANMA TSP. ACCESS TO NATIONAL GRID

Six villages in KanMa Township of ThaYet District enjoyed 24 hours electricity distribution via National Grid starting 5th October. It has been implemented with the budget allotment during the 2019-2020 fiscal year under the Rural Electrification Program.

Hluttaw Representative, Regional Constituency (1), KanMa Township, Zaw Win said "We have been working for electrification project at 64 villages with the budget allotment of the region from 2018 to 2020. KanMa Township received only 4% of electricity from the national grid, with 0% in the villages till 2017. With the submission to the Hluttaw sessions, there were extended stringing of the national grid, and we now have 90% of electricity, distributed via the national grid."

The Department of Rural Development is carrying out the Rural Electrification Program with the fund and technical assistance by the Development Partners. From 2016-2017 to 2019-2020 fiscal year, over 430,000 households from more than 8,500 villages have been electrified through the program, 32.7% of Off the Grid area, benefiting over 2 million rural people.
