People queued on Friday to see Rome’s Trevi Fountain after officials announced that tourists will have to pay a two-euro fee from February to access the area closest to the landmark. The measure is aimed at tackling overtourism. The fountain will remain viewable for free from a distance, but only ticket holders will be allowed closer.
The decision drew mixed reactions from visitors, with some saying tourists already contribute financially to the city, while others said the fee could help fund maintenance and manage heavy tourist crowds.
