The Municipality of Rome says that starting on February 1, 2026, tourist and non-resident will be required to pay a 2 euro ticket to access the lower basin area of the Trevi Fountain. Rome’s mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, explains that access to the square with the view of the fountain will remain free of charge, clarifying that the fee will apply only to the lower, controlled section of the monument next to the pool.

According to calculations provided by the city council, the measure is expected to help reduce the number of tourists visiting, which has hit a total of 9 million since the beginning of 2025, while generating an estimated 6.5 million euro in additional annual revenue.
