Role of Traditional Medicine: 2024 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum

Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win attended the Health Minister-level meeting of the 2024 Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the evening of June 26 in Nanchang of China. The delegation led by the Union Minister attended the dinner reception in honour of the 2024 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum on Traditional Medicine. 

On the 27th of June, the Myanmar delegation attended the opening of the 2024 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum on Traditional Medicine. At the Forum, in his remarks, the Union Minister stressed that during the Covid-19 epidemic, Myanmar, like other countries, successfully treated Covid-19 patients with traditional medicines. He also revealed a plan to establish a digital library of traditional medicine.

The Union Minister also highlighted cooperation with ASEAN member states for the safety of traditional medicine. Also, he expressed his belief that investing in scientific research and using modern technologies will improve the quality, effectiveness and safety of traditional medicines, and the forum will bring outcomes for the comprehensive development of the traditional medicine sector.

It’s reported that the theme of the upcoming forum is “Inheritance, Integration, and Development”, focusing on matters including traditional medicine patent issues, cooperation among universities of traditional medicine and comprehensive development of traditional medicine sector.
