ROK-ASEAN joint XR project: XR Convergence Sports Contents &Experience Centre

The opening ceremony of ROK-ASEAN joint XR project, XR Convergence Sports Contents and Experience Centre was held at the University of Information Technology (UIT) in Yangon on Tuesday.

The project aimed to expand the ICT exchange and mutual growth in Korea and ASEAN is under the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) and Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency (BIPA) and Korean Ministry of Science and ICT.

Byeon, Seong II, Deputy Manager, Digital Transformation Department, said " We started this project in Myanmar because of the projects related to ASEAN countries in 2019 and started together with 10 ASEAN member states. Through this project, KMPI Consortium Co., Ltd and Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency work together. This project is the first step and we will try to provide more in other fields."

XR experience centre started to build June this year. At the center, UIT students but also students from other universities and basic education high schools can play over 30 kinds of sports using Extended Reality XR technologies in one place. 

Dr. Saw Sandar Aye, Rector, UIT, said "At the XR centre, students can do sports activities and physical movements as well as they can learn the things that can be done by using the XR virtual technology. I hope that students will get more creative ideas by learning at the centre."

Dr. Khin Mo Mo Tun, Pro-rector, UIT, said " We are proud of opening Myanmar’s first joint XR Convergence Sports Contents and experience Centre. Students can play more than 30 kind of sports by using Extended Reality XR technologies in one place. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is difficult to practice and play in real sports fields, but now students can play sports using XR Convergence Sports and Experience Centre."

At the ceremony, Busan IT industry Promotion Agency, Korea and Department of Advanced Science and technology, Myanmar signed the Collaboration Agreement on ICT development between the two countries.
