“ASEAN Enabling Masterplan 2025: Mainstreaming the Rights of Persons with Disabilities” was adopted by ASEAN leaders and the Member States at the Singapore Summit on 15th November, 2018 to mark a new milestone for persons with disabilities in the regional community.
The overall goal of the Masterplan is to contribute to the enhancement of the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) at regional level, building an inclusive community where independence, freedom of choice, full and effective participation of persons with disabilities in all areas of life are realized and sustained.
A workshop to implement this Masterplan was held by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in Yangon on Wednesday.
Chairman of the National Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye said that the Ministry is carrying out for the rights of PWDs in cooperation with NGOs and INGOs.
Union Minister, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, H.E. Dr. Win Myat Aye said “Today workshop is to implement laws and technical laws that are really effective for the role and development of Persons with Disabilities with 5 years strategic plan (2019-2023) in harmony with the ASEAN Enabling Masterplan 2025. When we implement the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, we need to carry out each category that is really helpful for them like education, job opportunities sector.”
Officials from the related ministries, representatives from NGOs and INGOs joined 2 Days Workshop that aims to promote the role and development of Persons with Disabilities.
General Secretary, Myanmar Federation of Persons with Disabilities, Myat Thu Win said “The government also formulated and approved a strategy on Development of Persons with Disabilities (2016-2025) with 10 years plan. I think we’d get a lot of collaborations from International Organizations when our master plans get to fix with the ASEAN Master plans. So we can support systemically and effectively to the Person with Disabilities.”
Myanmar ratified United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) in 2011 and as per the convention, the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2015), and Rules on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2017) were enacted.
