Revelers take to streets of Rio ahead of carnival

Rio de Janeiro's world-famous carnival is still one week away but revelers already took the streets Saturday as the event comes back in full power for the first time after the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2021, all celebrations were canceled because of COVID-19 and last year, smaller street parties happened but without the support of Rio’s city hall. More than 80 street parties are in Rio’s city hall list for this weekend. Carnival officially starts on Friday 17th, with the Special Group Samba Schools parading on Sunday 19th and Monday 20th through the sambadrome.
