Residents told to evacuate as floodwaters rise

The New South Wales State Emergency Service on the east coast of Australia has made over 280 rescues as floodwaters rise across the Mid- North Coast and Hunter region, leaving 16,000 residents isolated. 

Thousands of residents remain without power and major roads are cut off and people are being told evacuate. There are dozens of other warnings across the state, including 41 watch and act alerts. There are warnings up to 150 millimeters could fall in the next 24 hours. Authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant.
