Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement U Soe Aung together with the Head of Working Group on Resettling the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Kachin State met with IDPs in Bhamo on Monday.
The Deputy Minister explained about the government’s arrangement to resettle the displaced persons with dignity and safety, short term and long term plans. They also discussed about the requirements and difficulties.
The Deputy Minister and officials later presented over 1 million kyats cash assistance for the displaced persons and new born child in IDP camps. The Deputy Minister and party later met with displaced persons in Momauk and asked about their requirements, resettling to the places of origin according to their wishes and with dignity.
They also provided over 1 million kyats cash assistance for the displaced persons, including new born child, expecting mothers and the elders. Later in the day, a work coordination meeting of Working Group on Resettling IDPs in Kachin State was held at Kachin State Government Office in Myitkyina.
Chief Minister Dr Khet Aung said priority was given toward resettling conflict displaced persons in the State to a safe and secure place. He added that basic requirements such as constructing homes, providing education and health, clearing of land mines, re-establishing farmlands and providing livelihood will also be fulfilled.
Deputy Minister U Soe Aung also pledged that their requirements will be fulfilled and works will be coordinated with UN/INGO and Red Cross Movement. It was followed by a general round of discussions by officials and representatives of Kachin Humanitarian Concern Committee (KHCC), Myanmar Red Cross Society, UNOCHA, UNHCR and ICRC.
