Rescuers pull man from rubble in Sulawesi

2 October 2018

A 38-year-old man was extracted from a financial building in Palu, Central Sulawesi on Monday, after the search and rescue team worked for three hours to get him out. Indonesia is struggling to get rescuers to remote areas devastated by an earthquake and tsunami.

Palu is one of the worst hit cities in the quake. 1,700 houses in one neighbourhood were swallowed up, with hundreds believed to be buried. Officials fear the death toll will rise into the thousands. But so far the number of confirmed deaths stood at around 900 on Tuesday.
