A massive sinkhole, 18 meters wide and 20 meters deep, opened up near an intersection in Seoul’s Gangdong-gu district on March 24 around 6:30 p.m.

Rescue operations are underway in the area, as a motorcyclist who fell into the sinkhole was found in cardiac arrest by rescuers on Tuesday afternoon, about 50 meters from where he had fallen. A passing car narrowly avoided the sinkhole, but the motorbike plunged in.

The sinkhole, which has expanded to cover five lanes of a six-lane road, has caused major disruptions. The incident has sparked widespread attention on social media. The ongoing rescue efforts are focused on ensuring the safety of those in the vicinity, while authorities work to assess the full extent of the damage caused by the collapse.
