Rescue Operations: Ongoing rescue and relief measures in Mandalay

The international rescue teams are carrying out the rescue operations in Mandalay where the major damages have occurred due to the devastating earthquake.

Those who are trapped in the collapsed buildings are being rescued by the international search and rescue teams in timely manner. Among them, a rescued team from Russian Federation is being carried out the search rescue measures by dividing four groups. The Russian rescue team included medical specialists, four highly trained canines for search and rescue.

Dmitry Mikhailovich Umanets, Member, Russian Rescue Team, said " Our team is divided four groups with four SAR dogs and will carry out the rescue works of the most difficult and dangerous situations. Every group is comprised of medical doctors, technicians and members of rescue persons. We brought the mobile hospitals and will give the medical treatment to those injured. Our team recovered four dead bodies in the rescue works yesterday and one 30-year-old pregnant woman was rescued alive. We wish for the quick recovery of Myanmar people and we will help to our best."

The 7.7 magnitude quake has caused extensive damages to the various infrastructures including ancient heritage buildings, public infrastructures, residential buildings and religious edifices.

Plans have been made for the clearing tasks phase by phase, with removing the blockages on the roads for convenient transportation access, followed by the government offices and the private infrastructures.

Chief Minister,,Myo Aung, Mandalay Region, said " We are carrying out the relief and rehabilitation works in timely manner. While working on the rescue works, we will continue to implement clearing works for the debris. The collapsed building have to be cleared systematically."

The international assistance has been pouring in to assist the ongoing rescue operations in Mandalay. In addition to Russian Rescue Team, China has sent rescue teams from its four provinces while India and Hong Kong also joined the rescue works. Moreover, rescue teams from Yangon and Ayeyawady Regions also reinforced the rescue and relief measures.
