Rescue operations are ongoing at the quake hit areas after the powerful 7.7 quake hit with the epicenter in central Myanmar.
In Mandalay where major damages have been seen by the disaster, the rescue and relief measures works have been carried out with the participation of Fire Brigade members.
Yan Myo Aung, Auxiliary Fire Brigade member said "Since yesterday, we started fire extinguishing measures in Chan Aye Thazi Township. Then we continued with the rescue works at the sites of collapse buildings. We were fortunate to save one life amidst the wreckage."
Family of Survivor said "Two of my sisters were trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building. One of them didn’t make it, and it’s a heartbreaking loss. But I am so thankful that we were able to rescue the other."
A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar at 12:51 PM local time on March 28, with its epicenter located about 20 kilometers northeast of Mandalay. It was described as a shallow earthquake of 10 kilometers deep and it caused quite substantial damage, followed by a number of small aftershocks.
Kyaw Lwin Oo, Director, Department of Meteorology and Hydrology said "As soon as the quake has struck, we informed the public about the earthquake news. It was a very powerful quake with a shallow depth of 10 kilometers. On Saturday morning, a moderate earthquake with about 5 Richter scale struck near Nay Pyi Taw. Since it is not possible to predict the quake, we have to mitigate this disaster once it occurred. For this, we must have strong resilience."
According to the Meteorology Department of Thailand, there were over 50 small aftershocks as of March 28th.
