Rescue and Relief Measures: Information Team Leader on recent floods

Leader of the Information Team of the State Administration Council Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun made a clarification on the rescue and relief measures during the recent floods triggered by the impact of Typhoon Yagi and a storm in the Bay of Bengal.

He stated that the Meteorology and Hydrology has issued warnings concerning the weather condition caused by the storm in the Bay of Bengal and the Typhoon in the South China Sea since late August and early September. On September 9th, a record rainfall with 11 inches in Nay Pyi Taw Tatkone caused the surge of rivers and inundation to the villages with many damages on infrastructures.

Likewise, Kayah, Kayin, Mon and Shan States, and Bago, Magway, Mandalay and some areas of Ayeyawady Region, altogether 56 townships have experienced severe floods. As of September 14th, over 72,900 houses across the nation have been evacuated, with over 78,000 households with more than 320,000 affected people.

113 people were killed with 64 missing and 14 injures, with search and rescue measures are ongoing. The government is carrying out the relief and rehabilitation measures with utmost efforts with prompt action. The Chairman of the State Administration Council himself and other relevant personnel make field trip tos the affected areas and provide necessary assistance.

Moreover, the Disaster Management Committee is operating 24-hour service, making timely management. Tatmadawmen, members of Myanmar Police Force, Fire Brigade, Red Cross Societies, NGOs and volunteers are actively participating in the relief and rehabilitation measures.

He highlighted the destructive intention of the subversive media outlets, tarnishing the image of united efforts by the government and people in implementing the rescue and relief measures, instigating the public with fake and false news to cause panic.

He mentioned the loss of two individuals, a Tatmadawman and a Policeman, during the rescue works in Zayatgyi West Village of Taungoo. The Maj-Gen expressed his appreciation and recognition to all involved persons in the rescue and relief measures, pledging to provide necessary assistance for rehabilitation.
