Rescue and Rehabilitation Measures: SAC Chairman discusses systematic work implementation

A special meeting on expediting the rescue and rehabilitation measures in quake hit areas was held at the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services on Sunday.

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing heard reports on the ongoing relief and rescue measures in the quake hit areas, and offers by the international community for providing relief supplies and sending rescue teams.

The Prime Minister discussed to carry out rehabilitation works in three phases with clearing collapsed buildings and debris, systematic clearing of damaged building for safety and reconstruction. He stressed to spend a mass force of budget, man power and machinery in implementation these measures, highlighting to add construction materials in requesting international assistance for reconstruction works. He also emphasized the need to carry out systematic scrutinizing for insured buildings to get compensation.

The discussion also focused on convenient arrangements for international rescue teams, restoring normalcy of communication networks, speedy restoration of collapsed Sagaing Bridge (Innwa), plans for re-operating of other railways and airport runways as well as various roads and bridges damaged by the quake and speedy deployment of cranes to facilitate in the rescue works.

The Prime Minister also stressed the need to make systematic reconstruction works for long term durability and renovation of Mandalay city wall without damaging its original style.

He also instructed to provide necessary arrangements for convenience of the monks, as they have been sheltering in the monasteries in Mandalay as well as for all affected individuals during the powerful earthquake. He urged all to make systematic work implementations for rehabilitation processes according to the priorities.
