Reopening of Wazira Theatre: President officially inaugurated the upgraded theatre

A ceremony to mark the reopening of the Wazira Theatre, a historic cultural heritage site with a history of more than 100 years, was held in Yangon on July 27. The theatre has been restored while preserving its original architectural design and upgraded into the Wazira Red Carpet Theatre. At the ceremony, President U Min Aung Hlaing officially inaugurated the upgraded theatre by pressing the ceremonial launch button and sprinkling scented water on the commemorative inscription plaque.

In his address, the President said he was delighted and honored that the Wazira Theatre, which has stood for more than a century, had been successfully restored without altering its original craftsmanship and reopened as a Red Carpet Theatre.

Among the attendees, film veteran Academy Swe Zin Htaik highlighted the great contribution of Wazira Theater to the growth and development of our film industry.

Academy Swe Zin Htaik said "I would say that the Wazira Theatre has grown and endured together with us. Since stage plays could also be performed here, it became a place where theatre artists were able to continue their careers after completing their performances. It has also played an important role in sustaining Myanmar's film industry.This theatre can make a significant contribution to the growth and development of our film industry."

According to Chairman of Myanmar Architects Council, The appearance of this building has been preserved exactly as it was in the past, and none of its original architectural features have been lost.

Win Zaw, Chairman, Myanmar Architects Council said "The appearance of this building has been preserved exactly as it was in the past, and none of its original architectural features have been lost. What we actually had to undertake was strengthening the structural components to make the building earthquake-resistant. Inside the theatre, we redesigned and renovated everything—from the seating onward—to ensure the highest standards of comfort for audiences as well as excellent acoustics and visual quality.

The Director of Myanmar Narrative Think Tank remarks that this theatre will provide an opportunity for all of us to showcase our talents and achievements to the international community.

Dr. Naing Swe Oo, Director, Myanmar Narrative Think Tank said "I am especially delighted for the arts community. The arts encompass not only the film industry, but also theatre, music, literature, journalism, and many other creative fields. I believe this theatre will provide an opportunity for all of us to showcase our talents and achievements to the international community. The ceremony was attended by the President, Union ministers, Union-level officials, the Chief Minister of Yangon Region, invited guests, artists and professionals from the Myanmar Motion Picture Organization, the Myanmar Theatrical Organization, and the Myanmar Music Organization, it’s reported.
