Renovation of Ancient Heritage: Coordination meeting on renovation of ancient lakes

Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture Daw Nu Mra Zan attended a coordination meeting on dredging and renovation for ancient lakes on 14th March.

At the meeting, the Deputy Minister said dredging and renovation works for ancient lakes including essential water ways of Bagan water management system have been carried out to support the prevention task for Natural Disaster and to reveal the ancient water management system.

By dredging the water ways, local residents can access water for drinking and agricultural purposes conveniently. She stressed the need to be cautious in dredging lakes since there might be unforeseen ancient heritages, and instructed to make systematic linkages with original water way for proper flow of water. She urged all to cooperate and coordinate the measures in order not to harm the world heritage site.

The meeting discussed the research findings, priorities for renovation, current work undertakings and future tasks. Departmental officials and experts participated in the discussion.

After that, the Deputy Minister and officials inspected the site of the dredging Yaytawmuni Lake and instructed for systematic work in order not to harm the embankment without losing the original value and to preserve it originally.

Next, they visited the dredging site of ShweHtee Lake, Shwe Nan Yin Taw Lakes (1, 2 and 3), PhooThuTaw Lake and MyaukTaWat Lake. They also observed the lightning rod installation on Pagoda No-748 (Sularmani pagoda), fixing process of Tempered Glass for preservation of murals in the tunnel, paving a brick floor circuit between the plinth and the outer wall and completion status of the original floor display booth.
