Renewable Energy: Efforts for increased power supply

National Renewable Energy Committee held its coordination meeting (1/2024) on 8th February. The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Committee, Union Minister for Electric power U Nyan Tun, Union Minister for Legal Affairs and Union Attorny General Dr Thida Oo, Union Ministers for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Cooperatives and Rural Development, Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, Industry, and Science and Technology, Nay Pyi Taw council Chairman, and officials.

In his opening speech, Chairman of the Committee Union Minister U Nyan Tun said the Ministry of Electric Power is carrying out for development of renewable energy through implementation of renewable energy projects, linking with National Grid.

He emphasized the need to maintain and supervise the use of renewable energy to be environmentally friendly, avoiding the cause of unstability in power system. He called for support of financial supplies, technologies and human resources to meet the goal of government. It is learnt that electricity demand in the country is increasing about 15% every year.

Generation mix in current system is 47% from Hydropower, 1.7% from Solar, and 50.7% from thermal power. At present, the Electrification Ration of the whole nation is over 66.67%.  Myanmar now have 6 - Solar electric power stations that already linked to National Grid, with 11 projects under construction.
