Relief Measures : Tanintharyi Region Gov't provides aid to flood victims

Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister U Zaw Naing Oo attended a ceremony in Dawei to provide cash and relief supplies to people affected by recent floods and landslides. Heavy rains from September 26 caused flooding and landslides in Dawei, Launglon, Thayetchaung and Tanintharyi townships.

Temporary relief camps were opened, while food and other essential supplies were provided to affected families. Relief was provided to 2,401 households, covering more than 9,000 people, from the four affected townships. Provisions also included 10 million kyats for each of 15 people who died in Launglon Township and 5 million kyats for each of nine injured people.

According to the regional government, 3,341 houses and 23,874 people were affected by the floods and strong winds. About 5,874 people have returned to their homes. Fifteen people died in landslides, while injured people are receiving medical treatment.

Cleanup operations at four landslide sites are about 85% complete. Authorities and volunteer groups are continuing search and rescue, cleanup, road repair and recovery operations in the affected areas.
