Relief Measures: Meeting with UNHCR delegation and rehabilitation works

Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing received Ms. Noriko Takagi, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to Myanmar and her delegation at the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed UN relief efforts in quake-hit regions, Myanmar-Bangladesh repatriation plans for displaced persons from Rakhine, visa procedures for UNHCR staff, the recompilation of UNHCR’s regional staff lists, the proposed plan for their deployment and resettlement and continued cooperation between the Ministry and UNHCR.

The Union Minister and officials then inspected the construction and relocation of temporary shelters for earthquake-affected staff, including new office space and containerized housing units and heard the reports on progress and plans.

The Union Minister also instructed the construction of drainage systems, provision of drinking water and electricity and safety measures in temporary accommodation areas and fulfilled the needs.
