A relief flight of Qatar Airways carrying 205 Myanmar citizens landed in Yangon International Airport on Monday. The passengers included seamen, students, civil servants on training, and workers who had been facing difficulties in the UK, European countries, the USA, the Middle East and Africa due to COVID-19.
The Myanmar Embassy in London coordinated with 11 other Myanmar embassies in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and the local ministries to bring the Myanmar citizens back home.
The Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, Ministry of Health and Sports, and the Yangon Region government helped the returnees in the immigration process, medical examinations and 21-day quarantine preparations for the returnees.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working in line with directives from the National Level Central Committee for Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19 to bring back Myanmar citizens stranded abroad due to the suspension of international flights. The MoFA coordinates with Myanmar embassies/consulate offices and relevant ministries in this regard and has so far managed to bring 8,991 citizens back to Myanmar.
