Relief Efforts: Temporary relocation of earthquake-affected staff members

The Nay Pyi Taw Disaster Management Centre held a coordination meeting on 12 April to discuss the temporary relocation of earthquake-affected staff members within its council area.

At the meeting, the Vice Chairman (1) of the National Disaster Management Committee, Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung called for swift arrangements to ensure safe, comfortable shelter for displaced staff families. He emphasized the need to promptly utilize rehabilitated blue-level housing, complete temporary shelters by May and coordinate effectively to maintain normal office operations.

Vice Chairman (2) of the Committee Union Minister Dr. Soe Win then highlighted ongoing search and rescue efforts, the setup of temporary hospitals for the injured and continued rehabilitation. He urged the relevant ministries to cooperate effectively using lessons from past disasters response. This was followed by sector-wise reports on staff relocation plans, use of blue-level buildings, progress on temporary shelters and offices and plans to complete shelters before the monsoon.

The Vice Chairmen then coordinated the needs and the meeting concluded with the closing speech. 

In the afternoon, the Vice Chairmen and party visited temporary accommodation camps in Nyana Theikkdhi and Dhana Theikkdhi Wards to assess living conditions of earthquake-affected staff families and provide assistance. They later inspected the designated site for the temporary accommodation camp in Mingala Dipa Ward, Pobbathiri Township and coordinated the needs for its prompt construction.
