Releasing fingerlings: Magway Region CM attends the ceremony

A ceremony to release fingerlings to Ayeyawady river was held on the bank of the river near Nanhtikethu hotel in Magwe on Tuesday.

Magwe region Chief Minister U Tint Lwin, regional ministers, departmental heads attended the event and they released 300,000 Thai silverĀ  barb, 100,000 carp fish, 100,000 gold barb, totalling 500,000 fingerlings to Ayeyawady river.

The event was collectively conducted by Magwe Region fish releasing supervisory committee members and staff of region, district and township fishery departments. Those fingerlings were bred from PwintPhyu and Taungdwin Gyi fishery camps.

In addition to releasing fish species, Magway region Department of Fisheries is conducting awareness of increasing fishery resources to fishing business operators, opening fish hatchery camps in Taungdwingyi and Pwint Phyu townships for the long-term sustainable development of fish species and releasing fish species into dams, lakes, rivers and creeks annually to have sufficiency of fish and improving socio-economic life of rural people based on fishery industry.

This year, fingerling will be released into rivers, creeks and ponds in Magway, Pakokku, Thayet and Taungdwin Gyi along Ayeyawady river. After that, it is targeted to plant 2.8 million fingerlings into dams and reservoirs, according to the Department of Fisheries in Magway region.
